The 16th December 2021 will mark the 60th year since the inception of Umkhonto we Sizwe. This important celebration is a crucial chapter of our heritage and aims to unite all members of MK by immortalising the name of MK and demonstrating the important role it played in the liberation struggle in SA. Exemplified by the slogan “between the hammer of the armed struggle and the anvil of mass action, we will crush apartheid and the white minority racist regime”, the armed struggle was located as one of the four pillars of the ANC strategy to overthrow the white minority racist regime and create a free, united, democratic, non-racial, non-sexist and prosperous South Africa.
The outcome of the golf day should yield the following outcomes:
• Begin the process of renewal, unity and cleaning MK brand.
• Establish connections with various sectors of society (Especially Youth and Business)
• Awaken political consciousness of the South African youth
• Contribute in the renewal, building unity and reconstruction of the ANC.

“This is an occasion meant to celebrate our liberation effort on the battlefield and yet, an occasion we have to use in our rededication to peace, freedom and stability. If in the past Umkhonto weSizwe was the spear of the nation, the time has indeed come for it to assume the role of the shield of the nation, acting together with other democratic formations, to defend the democratic values which we cherish and aim to uphold throughout the difficult but exciting years ahead of us. Concomitantly, we must invite all our compatriots to join us in an all-round commitment to peace by effectively closing the era of armed conflict and concentrate on the reconstruction and development of the country”.
By the First Commander Chief Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela in his speech delivered four months before the historic democratic election in 1994, during the celebration of the MK 35th anniversary 1993, he said the following:
